How to Fix Scooter Tires

    • 1). Set the scooter on its center stand and remove the wheel that has a flat tire from the scooter. If it is the front wheel, it will usually be attached with five or six lug nuts. If it is the rear, you may need to remove the muffler or cowl to get to the wheel. Refer to your owner's manual to be certain the necessary steps are taken.

    • 2). Wedge a tire lever between the tire bead and the rim. Pull backward on the lever to separate the tire from the rim. If necessary, bolt cutters may be used to completely break the bead of the tire to make it easier to remove.

    • 3). Remove the inner tube from the tire and rim. Dispose of the old tire and rim properly. Many retailers will recycle old tires and tubes free of charge.

    • 4). Lay the wheel flat on the ground and line up the tire above it. Using a bit of force, push the first bead over the rim. Push the new tube into the new tire and place the valve through the valve hole in the rim.

    • 5). Push as much of the second tire bead over the rim as possible with your hands. Using a tire lever, work the rest of the tire bead over the rim until the tire is seated properly.

    • 6). Air up the tire to the specifications in your owner's manual with a powered or hand pump. Attach the wheel to your scooter and tighten any lug nuts or bolts tightly. Attach any other parts of the scooter that needed to be removed.
