How to Install Truck Mufflers
- 1). Apply penetrating lubricant to all of the clamps and rubber grommets that secure and support the exhaust.
- 2). Locate the clamp behind the catalytic converter and remove the nuts on the bolts with a socket wrench.
- 3). Pull the muffler and tail pipe supports from out of the rubber grommets.
- 4). Pull the exhaust pipe out of the slip joint located behind the catalytic converter. Remove the old muffler and exhaust from the truck and set them aside.
- 1). Insert the new exhaust pipe into the slip joint behind the catalytic converter and insert the tailpipe supports into the grommets.
- 2). Place a new clamp over the tailpipe behind the catalytic converter. Hand-tighten the nuts onto the bolts then tighten them securely with the socket wrench.
- 3). Insert the new muffler into the back of the tailpipe. Insert the support for the muffler into the rubber grommets.
- 4). Place a new clamp over the muffler pipe connected to the tailpipe. Hand-tighten the nuts onto the bolts then tighten them securely with the socket wrench.
