    • 1). Drive the Subaru Impreza onto a level surface and put the vehicle in "Park." Set the emergency brake and place a wheel chock behind one of the front tires to keep the vehicle from rolling.

    • 2). Loosen the lug nuts a couple of turns with a tire tool on the tire you are going to be removing. Lift the vehicle up with a floor jack and place a jack stand underneath the axle near the tire you are going to remove.

    • 3). Lower the vehicle down onto the jack stand and move the floor jack out of the way. Remove the tire by unfastening the lug nuts with the tire tool and set the tire and lug nuts aside.

    • 4). Remove the bolts that are holding the brake caliper to the brake rotor, using a socket wrench to loosen the bolts until you can take them off by hand. Slide the brake caliper off the rotor and suspend the caliper from the vehicle frame with a wire hanger.

    • 5). Slide the brake rotor off the wheel hub, rocking it back and forth gently until you can remove the rotor by hand. Take the crown washer off the spindle by hand and remove the cotter pin from the spindle with a pair of pliers.

    • 6). Take the axle nut off the spindle with a crescent wrench and attach a slide hammer to the hub. Attach the five lug adapter onto the hammer and secure the nut to the adapter with a socket wrench. Do not use the lug nuts that secure the tire to attach the adapter.

    • 7). Tighten the adapter with the socket wrench until you feel the hub come loose and remove the hub from the Impreza by hand, setting it aside.
