How to Remove the Automatic Transmission From a 1994 Acura Integra

    • 1). Disconnect the negative battery cable, using the appropriate wrench, and set it aside, ensuring that it does not touch metal. Disconnect the positive battery cable. Loosen the clamps on the air duct, using the screwdriver, then pull the air duct off the air cleaner box. Remove the air cleaner box.

    • 2). Jack up the vehicle, using the floor jack, then support it with jack stands. Disconnect the starter cables, using the appropriate wrench. Remove the cable holder from the starter, using the appropriate socket. Disconnect the transmission's ground cable from the transaxle hanger, using the appropriate socket.

    • 3). Disconnect the lockup control solenoid and shift control solenoid valve connectors. Remove the harness clamp on the lockup control solenoid harness from its bracket. Disconnect the vehicle speed sensor, main shaft speed sensor and the counter-shaft speed sensor connectors.

    • 4). Remove the upper transmission bellhousing bolts. Slide the drain pan under the transmission, then remove the drain plug. Allow the fluid to drain. Properly dispose of the fluid. Reinstall the drain plug. Remove the splash shield. Remove the front wheels, using the lug wrench.

    • 5). Remove the cotter pins, using the dykes, then the castle nuts, using the appropriate socket, from the front lower ball joints. Install the ball joint removal tool and hit it with the hammer to separate the ball joints from the lower control arms. Remove the right strut fork bolt, then discard the nut. Remove the right strut pinch bolt, using the appropriate socket, then remove the strut fork.

    • 6). Pry the right CV axle out of the differential, using the prybar. Discard the set ring on the inner joint. Pry the left halfshaft out of the intermediate shaft. Discard the set ring on the inner joint. Tie the plastic bags over the joints to keep the splines clean.

    • 7). Unplug the oxygen sensor wiring harness connector. Remove the exhaust bolts from the exhaust pipe that is connect to the catalytic converter, using the appropriate wrench. Discard the gasket and locknuts. Remove the nuts that attach the pipe to the exhaust hanger. Discard the nuts.

    • 8). Remove the locknuts that attach the pipe to the exhaust manifold. Remove the pipe from the vehicle, then discard the exhaust gaskets. Remove the intermediate shaft, using the appropriate socket. Remove the set ring from the intermediate shaft and install a new set ring.

    • 9). Remove the shift cable cover, using the appropriate socket. Remove the shit cable control lever and the shift cable, then discard the rock washer. Do not bend the shift cable when removing it. Remove the right front mount and its bracket, using the appropriate socket. Discard the two long attaching bolts. Unhook the end of throttle control cable from the throttle control drum.

      Disconnect the transmission cooler hoses from the joint pipes, using the appropriate line wrench. Prop the ends of the hoses up to prevent fluid loss. Plug the joint pipes. Remove the engine stiffener and torque converter cover, using the appropriate sockets. Rotate the crankshaft pulley and remove one of the drive plate bolts. Rotate it again, until you see the next drive plate bolt, then remove it. Repeat for all eight drive plate bolts.

      Slide a floor jack under the transmission, then raise it just enough to take the weight off the transmission. Remove the transmission mount. Remove the transmission mounting bolts and the rear engine mounting bolts, using the appropriate sockets. Pull the transmission away from the engine enough to clear the 14 mm dowel pins. Lower it, using the jack. Remove the starter from the transmission, using the appropriate socket.
