How do I Repair a Lupton Casement Window?
- 1). Put on your workmen's gloves and protective glasses. Measure the exact length and width of the glass area that you are repairing. Record these measurements onto paper. Place an order at your local home improvement center for a new piece of window glass, cut to the dimensions you have recorded.
- 2). Remove any broken glass from the Lupton casement window. Use a pair of pliers to remove any existing spring clips. Examine whether or not the clips have been damaged.
- 3). Remove the existing glazing compound using a putty knife.
- 4). Sand the window area to remove any remaining glazing compound or rust.
- 5). Use a paintbrush to coat the Lupton casement window frame with protective, rust-resistant paint. Allow the paint coat to dry completely for 24 to 48 hours before proceeding. Place your new glass into the frame, securing it by putting new or the old spring clips back into place.
- 6). Roll the new glazing compound into a long rope and push it tightly against the Lupton casement window and the glass, going around the whole inner part of the window frame.
- 7). Use a putty knife to smooth the glazing compound by starting at one corner and advancing to the next until you have covered the whole inner window frame. Allow the glazing compound to dry completely according to the manufacturer's instructions. Repeat the glazing compound application process on the opposite side of the glass, making sure that the glazing compound goes up to exactly the same level on the glass as on the other side. Let this dry out completely before resuming use of the new window.
