Top and Bottom Sheets

• 1). Remove the bedsheets from the mattress and place the stained sheet on a large, flat, water-resistant surface. The kitchen counter works well for this project.
  
  
• 2). Fill a plastic food bag with three or four ice cubes and place the ice bag directly on the mound of gum. Keep the ice on the gum for 30 minutes. If there is a large amount of gum on the sheet, it may take up to one hour to harden. The mound of gum must be solid before it can be removed.
  
  
• 3). Remove the frozen gum by gently picking it off the bedsheet with a plastic scraper or the dull side of a butter knife. Work a small section at a time. If the gum begins to soften, reapply the ice bag to the gum until it hardens and continue the process until all the gum is removed.
  
  
• 4). Apply 1 tbsp. of liquid laundry detergent to stained area and rub in. The detergent will break down any remaining gum residue. Allow the detergent to stand for five minutes on the residual stain and launder the bedsheet in the washing machine.
  
  

Pillow Cases

• 1). Place the gum-stained pillow case(s) directly in the freezer for 30 minutes. This should allow enough time for the gum to harden; however, if the gum is not completely solid, leave pillow cases in the freezer for an additional 15 minutes.
  
  
• 2). Place the stained pillow case(s) on kitchen counter and spread out flat, stain side up. Using a plastic scraper or the dull, unserrated side of a butter knife, pick off as much of the gum as possible. If the gum begins to soften, place pillow case(s) back in the freezer to harden. Continue to pick off the gum until it is removed.
  
  
• 3). Apply 1 tbsp. of liquid laundry detergent to stained area and rub in. Allow the detergent to stand for five minutes on the residual stain and launder the pillow case(s) in the washing machine.
