How to Get Rid of a Stinky Sink Sewer Smell

    • 1). Pour 1/2 gallon of bleach into the drain and let it work its way through the plumbing system for 10 minutes.

    • 2). Turn on the faucet and pour another 1/4 gallon of bleach into the drain, and allow the water to flush the bleach through the pipes. Leave the water on for three to five minutes. If the sink is a kitchen sink with a garbage disposal, turn on the disposal whenever you flush the sink drain with water.

    • 3). Add another 1/4 gallon of bleach to the drain without water flow. Place a stopper in the sink and fill it three-quarters full with water. Pull the stopper and allow the sink full of water to flush the drain. Fill the sink three to four more times with water and release it.

    • 4). Flush the sink once a month with 1/4 gallon of bleach and two to three sink fulls of water. Flush more often if the sewer smell returns between flushes.
