Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary a favourite tourist destination
Kerala is famous for the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary. It is an animal sanctuary and is located in south India and therefore south of the capital city of New Delhi. The sanctuary is on the way from Mysore via Sultan battery. The sanctuary is spread across a wide area and you can find a large number of animals and plant species over here. Among the animals one can find elephants, Indian bison, tiger and deer. The sanctuary also houses a variety of avian species including peacocks, owls and other rare avian species.

The Wayanad plateau vegetation generally comprises of deciduous teak timber plantations and these are quite common in south India. Apart from these one can also spot semi evergreen trees. The visitors can take elephant rides over here and visit the sanctuary on an elephant. The elephant rides are usually suggested by the Kerala plantation department. Here visitors can also enjoy the pleasures of safari ride and for the same a wide range of vehicles are available.
This sanctuary was formed in 1973 and is now a significant part of the Nilgiri hills. It is surrounded by areas like Nagarhole, Bandipur of Karnataka state and Mudumalai of the Tamil Nadu state. Here there are movie complexes and shopping malls that are far away from the forest reserves of Wayanad. Tourists enjoy watching Indian movies. The sanctuary head office is in Kapetta. Kapetta has a wide network of transport and thereby it interconnects all the important cities of Kerala state. Kozhikode has the closest aerodrome as also the closest railway station. The lake has lush green flower beds and is the favourite place for tourists to do boating activities.
