How to Use a Romertopf Pane for Baking Bread
- 1). Soak the Romertopf pan in water for 10 minutes before using to prepare the clay. Pour out excess water from the pan.
- 2). Put the empty Romertopf pan into a cold oven 30 minutes before baking and heat the oven to 450 degrees.
- 3). Carefully remove the hot pan from the oven with oven mitts and rub a light coating of vegetable shortening over the interior surface. Dust the inside with flour and pour out the excess flour.
- 4). Add the risen bread dough to the hot pan and return to the oven.
- 5). Bake the bread for an additional 30 minutes or until cooked all the way through.
- 6). Cool in the Romertopf pan for 10 minutes.
- 7). Hold the pan with oven mitts and turn it upside down. Gently tap the bottom of the pan to turn out the loaf of bread onto a cooling rack.
