How to Make a Cleaning Solution to Remove Mildew From a Mattress
- 1). Pour 1 tbsp. of liquid dish washing detergent or laundry detergent into a mixing bowl. Add warm water, a little at a time, until you have thick sudsy solution. University of Missouri Extension, suggests this solution as one for treating mildew on a mattress.
- 2). Wipe it over the mildewed areas with a sponge or cloth, scrubbing mildew off the fabric. University of Missouri Extension advises you to avoid over-wetting the mattress with the solution, or the moisture may seep beneath the fabric, wetting the inner filling.
- 3). Allow the mattress to dry fully, outdoors and in direct sunlight.
- 1). Purchase a bottle of rubbing alcohol. Pour 1 cup into a mixing bowl.
- 2). Add 1 cup of water. Put on rubber gloves--rubbing alcohol is very drying to the skin.
- 3). Wet a cloth in this mix and wipe it over all mildewed spots of the mattress. Allow the mattress to air dry outdoors.
