How to Install a Whirlpool Dryer Idler Pulley
- 1). Disconnect the power supply to the dryer either at the circuit breaker box or the wall outlet. Remove the top panel and front panel of the dryer cabinet according to the owner's manual.
- 2). Remove the belt from the drum by pressing the idler pulley toward the rear of the dryer with your hand. The idler pulley is located at the front of the drive motor. Pay attention to the routing of the belt for reinstallation.
- 3). Remove the drum from the dryer by lifting it with one hand and pulling it out through the front. This will give you an unobstructed access to the idler pulley.
- 4). Disconnect the idler pulley from the base of the dryer by removing the two mounting bolts at the bottom with a socket wrench. Set the new idler pulley into place and mount it to the dryer with the mounting bolts.
- 5). Set the drum back into position, making sure that it fits inside the rear boot correctly. Reattach the drive belt by placing it over the drum and folding it between the idler pulley and around the motor pulley. Pull the idler pulley toward you to route the belt and then release it slowly so that it applies the tension.
- 6). Reassemble the dryer cabinet according to the instructions in your manual. Reconnect the power supply to the dryer.
