Homemade Laundry Soap for Hard Water
- 1). Grate a bar of castile soap.
- 2). Put the grated soap into a quart saucepan and add enough water to cover. Bring the water to a boil. Use a kitchen spoon to stir the pot frequently until the soap has melted.
- 3). Pour 2 gallons of hot water into a 3-gallon plastic bucket. Add the melted soap solution. Stir the solution with a long-handled spoon to combine the ingredients.
- 4). Add 2 cups of baking soda to the plastic bucket. Stir with a long-handled spoon to mix the ingredients thoroughly.
- 5). Measure out 1/2 cup of the solution for lightly soiled loads of laundry, or use a full cup for heavily soiled laundry.
- 6). Place the lid on the bucket and store it near the washing machine.
