Stop Smoking Vaccine

In this world we live in I have noted that with the advancement of medical science along with everything else compared to, say 30 years ago, a lot of problems are solved with a pill or something equally convenient.
Of course, 30 years ago, people of a certain age were saying the same thing! Like it or not though, we are living in a society where everything is expected to be on tap with a minimum of fuss and pain.
So, it naturally follows that more and more of us are wanting to find the easy way out.
It's human nature isn't it.
Also, for that matter, who likes pain? Not me anyway.
So, if I'm a hard wired smoker wanting to stop and I hear about a 'stop smoking vaccine,' I would ask myself, what's all that about? Well, in 2008 it was still in experimental form and apparently the plan is that the participant has his nicotine intake reduced on a daily basis.
In fact, it could still be experimental.
The vaccine itself is referred to as a "nicotine vaccine" so I assume it contains nicotine.
So, the idea is that the cravings for that smoker are gradually reduced over time.
Alongside this experiment the smokers are counselled.
Call me skeptical, but I have always taken the view that if you are trying to rid your body of nicotine then it must be counterproductive to induce nicotine as part of the treatment.
How long would this treatment go on for? I have seen 12 weeks minimum so far.
Okay, I am all for any sensible way for smokers to quit.
A stop smoking vaccine could have it's place within the ever growing armoury for the cause but at what cost? I suppose we will only find that out when and if it becomes available.
I expect it won't come cheap, well, someone has to pay for all that research.
Is there any guarantee that after 12 weeks you will be okay? Or, will it take longer, thus incurring yet more expense.
All I know is, when I stopped I went through a bit of yearning, which is normal.
I had already programmed myself to quit and I got through it.
Now that I am an accomplished reformed smoker, there is no way I am going back.
I did it on my own, for me!
