    Tweezers

    • Use tweezers and your fingers to peel off pieces of the cellophane tape. Work from the edges of the tape toward the center to remove as much as possible. Tweezers help grip the edge of the tape, which can slip away easily.

    Mineral Spirits

    • Mineral spirits is a solvent that dissolves adhesive residue. This solvent is particularly effective at removing adhesive from wood panels with wax on them. To use it, soak a clean cloth in mineral spirits and wring until slightly damp. Blot the adhesive with the mineral spirits until the tape residue is gone. Always test a small area of the paneling to ensure it won't damage the color or texture.

    Acetone

    • Acetone is another solvent that removes adhesive residue from wood paneling. Acetone can dissolve varnish and stain residue, though. It can also dissolve polyurethane coatings. Thus, apply as little as possible to work away the tape residue. Work until the tape residue loosens from the wood paneling. Remove the tape residue off with a plastic paint scraper.

    White Vinegar

    • White vinegar is another common solvent that removes tape residue on wood paneling. White vinegar is completely natural and nontoxic. It may not work as quickly as other solvents, but it won't damage varnishes or stains. To use, soak a clean cloth in white vinegar and rub it over the residue until the stain is gone or until the residue is loose enough that you can remove it with a plastic paint scraper.
