How to Cover Pine Logs for Seating Stumps
- 1). Give your pine stumps plenty of time to cure so that sap does not leak out, ruining your fabric or your floor.
- 2). Remove the bark from the stumps since this will eventually come off and take your fabric covering with it. Or leave the bark on most of the logs if you want, but trim the bark off down to where you want the fabric cover to end.
- 3). Measure the diameter of the logs. Make sure to measure each log individually since they probably vary a little in size. If the shape is irregular, trace each log using a marker and a piece of paper large enough to cover the end of the stump.
- 4). Get a piece of 3-inch foam cut to the diameter or shape of each log. Use an electric knife to do this, or have the fabric or upholstery shop cut the foam for you. Set the foam on top of the log.
- 5). Set a piece of fabric on top of the foam. Allow it to hang over the sides to see how much fabric you need to cover the end of the stump.
- 6). Cut the fabric so that it hangs down the edges of the stump about 4 inches. Remove the fabric from the stump and straighten the edges of the circle if necessary.
- 7). Replace the fabric on top of the foam and the stump. Put one staple on one side of the stump to hold the fabric in place.
- 8). Move to the other side of the stump and put in another staple. Keep working around the stump, working on opposite sides, stapling the fabric to the stump. Turn under the edges of the fabric before stapling if you desire.
- 9). Measure around the stump. Cut a length of trim 1-inch longer than this measurement.

Use a glue gun to attach the trim to the bottom edge of the fabric to cover up the staples. Overlap the beginning and end of the trim and glue it in place to finish the pine log stump seat.
