How to Test Your Home's Carpet for Fungus & Mold

    • 1). Wear a dust mask and rubber gloves. Spores in mold and fungus are harmful if inhaled.

    • 2). Detach one edge of the carpet from the fixings. A claw hammer will enable you to pry out any carpet tacks or staples. Separate the carpet from adhesive tape with a metal edged scraper.

    • 3). Roll back the carpet so the backing is visible. Mold or fungus will be noticeable if the backing contains growth or black spots.

    • 4). Remove the carpet and discard it if mold damage and fungus growth is extensive.
