My House Has Bad Condensation

104 6

    Causes

    • Condensation refers to the process of water vapor returning to its original liquid state. Generally, this occurs when warm air comes in contact with cold air. For example, moisture condensation occurs on the surface of your windows when the warm air inside comes in contact with the cold pane of glass.

    Problems

    • Moisture condensation can cause mold and mildew growth, wood rot, blistering or peeling of paint, and insect infestation. Mold and mildew growth created by moisture condensation can lead to serious health complications, including eye irritation and respiratory problems.

    Solutions

    • Solving moisture condensation involves reducing the moisture in the air inside your home. This can be done by running a dehumidifier, placing open containers of silica gel in your home and running an exhaust fan after engaging in moisture-generating activities, such as bathing and laundering. In addition, consider installing windows with a high condensation rating, or CR. CR ratings range from 0 to 100, with a higher number indicating that the window is better at preventing condensation.
