Painting the shed ensures its overall lifetime as well as it changes the look and feel of the area as well. There are lots of patterns and artistic approach which can be put into a shed that enhances the look of the whole space.
Some people are habitually criticizing way too much and one of my wifes friends belongs in this category. She always looks on the negative side of everything. Last week when she was leaving our home, she passed remarks upon our custom storage shed How versatile is your storage shed but look at the paint, its faded to such an extent that it has ruined the beauty of your home.
Well that was all it took for my wife to issue an order to get the shed painted at once. I knew that the shed needed to be painted but I was stalling the task as usual. But this was final because not only did it look ugly, it was exposed to the elements, continuous sun light and above all from mold.
The shed was situated in one corner of our yard near our house. Thats why last time I had used low quality paints and also messed up in the preparation of the surface. Thats why the shed paint faded and cracked from many places before the paint of other parts of the house. If you are thinking that just with a brush and paint youll get the job done then you are in for an unpleasant surprise later on. In fact preparation of the surface for painting is a time consuming and important task which comes even before you get down to painting, especially for shed kits.
You should start with cleaning the surface from all type of stains. After cleaning give it a day to dry then rub the surface to remove flaking paint and extra elements to make it smooth and clean. Sand paper is best suited for this task. You must use a dust mask or respirator during this process as it saves you from dust and any harmful particulates.
All the shed repair work is done after sanding, here you have to clean all slack wreckage from the holes then fill them up with wood puffy, and again one day is required to let it dry. When I painted my shed, before starting the paint, I hired the services of a carpenter and he checked all the areas where moisture could stay. FYI the paint will blister when there is moisture in the wood, therefore filling and repairing them was essential.
After caulking the smooth surface was ready to paint. You must paint only during suitable weather conditions and specially be careful while using ladder. After applying one coat wait for one day then apply the second coat. The first time I had messed up so bad that I had to repaint the entire shed. Now whenever someone around the neighborhood plans to paint their shed, I advise them to deeply prepare the surface before painting. When I started the task of painting the shed I was making a virtue of the necessity. But after finishing, the old shed looked like a brand new one and indeed makes for a good addition to the house.
