How to Weld Tin & Steel
- 1). Put on all of your protective gear, including your helmet, gloves, cape, glasses and face mask.
- 2). Place all of the tin and metal pieces on a flat surface in the position in which you wish to weld them. Secure the pieces together with clamps if necessary.
- 3). Hold the torch near the area in which you will be creating the joint between the pieces of tin or steel. The torch should sit at at 70- to 80-degree angle to the metal. It should be 1/4 to 1/8 inch away from the surface of the metal.
- 4). Control the heat of the torch using the connected foot pedal. Press the foot pedal to increase the heat. Release the foot pedal to decrease the heat. The amount of heat used should produce an area of melted metal that is no more than 4 inches around.
- 5). Hold your filler metal at an angle that is 15 degrees in relation to the surface of the melted metal puddle.
- 6). Dab the metal repetitively into the joint area.
- 7). Allow the joint to cool and dry until it becomes solid.
