How Do I Seal Lap Siding?
- 1). Wipe down the siding with a stiff-bristled brush to remove any dust or debris from the wood before staining. Make sure the wood is thoroughly dry before staining.
- 2). Mix the stain color of your choice in the can with a stirring stick before applying it to the wood. This allows all ingredients to mix together sufficiently before application.
- 3). Apply the stain to the lap siding with a clean paintbrush. Master Garden Projects suggests using a paintbrush for application because it penetrates the wood better and covers the siding uniformly. Use a natural bristled brush for oil-based wood stains or a synthetic bristled brush for water-based wood stains.
- 4). Brush on the stain in straight, even motions. Allow the first coat to dry thoroughly, and add a second if desired.
