Decorating With Chocolate & Baby Blue in a Dining Room

    Wall Colors

    • Infuse the two colors on the wall in a way that doesn’t overwhelm either hue, or the space. If the dining room is expansive, use the chocolate brown to cover the walls, as the space can support this darker hue. In this case, the baby blue is then infused into the space as a border color or with the application of decorative stencils. If your space is smaller, use baby blue as the main wall color to ensure the space doesn’t feel cavernous, leaving the chocolate brown for the borders and stenciling. Another option is to decorate the space with wallpaper featuring both colors, either as a print or stripes.

    Furniture

    • Create a cohesive feel to the space by filling it with chocolate brown furniture. Choose pieces that don’t overwhelm the space, but still mesh with the home’s style. Cover the seats of the dining room’s chairs with baby blue fabric to create a cool contrast against the deeper chocolate brown furniture. Another way to work the baby blue color into the room is by painting a single piece, such as a credenza or china cabinet, in that shade.

    Decorative Pieces

    • Locate items that feature chocolate brown and baby blue designs and incorporate them into the space. This can include artwork, prints, lampshades, throw rugs or decorative accent pillows. Decorate the dining table by first covering it with a chocolate brown tablecloth. Arrange baby blue plates around the table that feature folded chocolate brown linen napkins. Fill a china cabinet with a mixture of chocolate brown and baby blue pieces including plates, saucers and other decorative items.

    Other Ideas

    • Use the stark contrast between the darker chocolate brown and cooler baby blue to provide a subtle division between the dining room and kitchen or other living space, in an open-concept floor plan. For instance, decorate the dining room in shades of chocolate brown and the adjoining space with the cooler baby blue. This contrast will subtly delineate the space. Make the transition more subtle by incorporating pieces that feature both colors in the space between the rooms.
