The Location of the Sundew in the Wetlands

104 4

    Geographical Distribution

    • Sundews grow in the wetlands of every continent except Antarctica. A wide belt stretches across North America, Europe and Asia. They also grow on the eastern side of South and Central America, southern Africa, and much of Australia and New Zealand.

    Habitat

    • Sundews are usually located in very moist areas, such as swamps, marshes and fens. They prefer regions that receive a lot of sunlight and where the soil is too acidic and low in nutrients for competing plants to grow. Sundews often grow alongside sphagnum moss.

    Temperature

    • Although sundews have adapted to a variety of climates, most species grow in warmer locations. A few have adapted to colder regions by going into a dormant state during the winter.
