Looped carpet refers to the type of carpet that features woven carpet yarn loops that adhere to the carpet backing. The loop portion of the yarn is on top of the carpet, creating texture and durability. Looped carpets are preferable for areas in your home that receive a lot of wear and tear and foot traffic. Consult a carpet professional if you have any questions or concerns. - Cut and loop pile is a type of carpet that has fibers that are cut as well as fibers that are looped. Because of this, cut and loop carpet tends to have a good amount of texture and, with the varying heights of the carpet fibers, can hide dirt and stains quite well. It is available in sold or mixed colors.
- Level loop pile is carpet where the fiber loops are all the same height and level. This quality makes the loops stronger, and holds up to high traffic, stains and dirt. The higher the loops, the more rich the look. Shorter loops are easier to clean. The more densely packed the loops are, the less dirt can filter into the carpet.
- Berber carpet is an example of loop carpet made from thick yarns, with a tight weave. Most Berber carpets feature loops that are level. This carpet provides a lot of texture, which helps to limit vacuum marks and footprints in high-traffic areas. Berber is made from either wool fibers or less-expensive nylon or olefin fibers. The loops on Berber carpet may have a tendency to become snagged and retain dirt.
- Multi-level loop carpet refers to carpet that has loops with varying heights. This is sometimes referred to as shag carpet. This is a good choice for high-traffic areas and gives the look of casual texture.
