Attic Projects
- Declutter your attic by removing any surplus items. Host a yard sale and sell stored items, such as Christmas ornaments and gym equipment (items that commonly end up in an attic), and donate lightly used seasonal clothes. Organize the remaining storage, or find new homes for the items in your garage, organized closets or other spaces.
- Give your attic a facelift by updating the flooring, paint or wallpaper and lighting. Refurbish existing wood floors, rip up old carpet and replace with new tiles or flooring and add a few cozy rugs. If your attic boasts a large amount of sunlight, keep lighting minimal. Add pot lighting if your attic lacks sunlight or any light at all. Use lighter colors if your attic tends to be on the dark side; add a single accent wall of wallpaper or a bold pop of color for a modern twist. Updating these attic essentials is a project that will make your attic's diversity stand out.
- With your attic freshened up and modernized, another project is to convert it for different usage. Add bookcases, a desk and chair if your attic will become a library and office nook. Move a bed, dresser, nightstand and wardrobe upstairs if your attic can accommodate guests. Some attics are sized simply with only enough space for storage; add a highly developed storage system if your attic is on the smaller size.
- Renovate the stairs and hallway leading to your attic. Refurbish the stairs with a fresh coat of paint or carpet, paint the hall entryway and add a few family photos. A new door, complete with a welcoming pop of color painted on the exterior, is an ideal first impression to your attic.
