How to Grow Red Russian Kale in a Container
- 1). Choose a large pot at about 16 inches in diameter. Fill the pot halfway full with potting soil.
- 2). Add 4 inches of compost to the pot and mix it evenly with the potting soil. Add more potting soil to fill the pot.
- 3). Mix a 10-10-10 fertilizer into the soil. Sow two to three seeds at a depth of 3/4 inch.
- 4). Water the soil so that it is moist. Cover the pot with a plastic bag during germination. Keep the pot in a sunny location with an ideal temperature being 75 degrees Fahrenheit.
- 5). Thin out the weaker seedlings once the first set of true leaves appear on your plants. Leave one plant in the pot to continue growing.
- 6). Continue to water your plant with 2 inches of water a week. Water the plant deeply, but infrequently. Make sure your plant isn't exposed to temperatures below 25 F degrees.
- 7). Begin harvesting leaves from your plant from 50 to 75 days from germination.
