Good Vs Perfect!

What makes some companies better than others? Is it the products they offer? Is it the staff? Is it how they market themselves? Nope, nope and nope! It's the actions they take! Huh?! I'll explain! But first, let me ask you a question.
What do you strive for...
perfect or just good? Most entrepreneurs would like to say perfection...
but in reality just plain ole' good wins every time.
Have you ever noticed how some companies continue to prosper, even if their products or marketing isn't so perfect? Then there are companies who strive for perfection in every product, every design, every key component, yet have trouble reaching their potential.
When you look at Microsoft, you would think based on how hugely profitable they are, that they must be a perfect company.
I say, no way! Just good! When you are perfect, you are allocating too much time, too much money, too many resources and way too much energy to ensure a proper return on investment.
When you are striving for good, although you are using time, money, energy and resources its the action you take immediately to get your product, or marketing piece in front of the consumers that matters.
A perfect product or marketing piece is no fun.
It doesn't help in gauging consumer response.
A good product has its flaws and is more acceptable and gets a better response from consumers.
Let's go back to Microsoft...
like I said a good company with good products.
Every time they launch a new software program it's not perfect...
no way, no how, far from it.
Do they apologize? Rarely! They fix the problems as they arise, course correct and update as needed.
This has become their mantra.
And, they discovered that, constantly updating their software makes people keep coming back.
A good product or marketing piece can be tested immediately for a consumer response, and can start making the company money right away.
A perfect product needs time to go through the formulation, research & development, marketing, testing and then maybe off to the consumer.
Perfection takes too long! I recently tested a marketing piece for a client.
I peppered it with spelling errors, grammatical errors, and an upside down picture.
The client thought I was joking.
He asked me to correct all the mistakes and make it perfect...
I said fine...
but let's test it.
We sent out 10,000 good "errors" and 10,000 perfect letters.
The "error" good letter pulled more responses than the perfect letter.
Almost 3 to 1 difference.
A good product can always be made better, a perfect product can not.
A good product can start to make you money right away, a perfect product will sit in research & development waiting for action to occur costing you money.
If you have a good idea or product, take action now and get it out there.
You can always improve it later.
