How to Build a Large Mirror Frame
- 1). Measure the length and width of the mirror. This will determine the size of the trim needed to frame the mirror.
- 2). Cut two sections of 3-inch wall trim to 6 inches wider than the width of the mirror. For example, if the mirror measures 46 inches wide, you will need two sections that are each 52 inches wide.
- 3). Cut two sections of 3-inch wall trim to 6 inches taller than the height of the mirror. For example, if the mirror is 60 inches tall, you will need two sections of trim that measure 66 inches.
- 4). Lay the four sections of trim horizontally on a flat surface. Measure in 3 inches from each end along the bottom edge of the trim. Draw a line back from each 3-inch bottom mark to the top corner on each end. This will create a 45-degree angle for the trim.
- 5). Cut along the 45-degree angle line to remove the section from each end of each trim section. This will allow the trim to install seamlessly on the mirror.
- 6). Paint or stain the trim to the desired color. Allow the trim to fully cure for up to two weeks before you begin to assemble the trim pieces.
- 7). Apply construction-grade adhesive to the back of the width sections of trim and place the two width sections along the top and bottom of the mirror, lining up each 3-inch mark measured to the corners of the mirror. Hold the trim in place by taping the trim to the wall around the mirror using painter's tape.
- 8). Apply construction-grade adhesive to the back of the width sections of trim and place the two length sections of trim along the side edges of the mirror, lining up each 3-inch mark with the corners of the mirror. Hold the trim in place by taping the trim to the wall around the mirror using painter's tape.
- 9). Remove the tape from the trim once the adhesive is dry. It takes approximately 24 hours for the construction-grade adhesive to dry. Make sure the glue is completely dry before you continue continuing.
