    About FFmpeg

    • FFmpeg is a free application for converting a wide variety of audio and video files from one format to another on your computer. For example, you could convert videos saved for playback with your computer's media player, so you can play them back on your cellphone. FFmpeg comes with presets, enabling you to quickly set up whatever format you want to convert your video to.

    MPG Videos

    • An MPG is a video saved using the Motion Pictures Experts Group (MPEG) method of compression. When a digital camera generates a video file, or when someone uses a video-editing application to export a video, the original might be too large to store on a computer or send over the Internet, so people often compress the original as an MPG video.

    FLV Videos

    • Adobe's Flash format saves movies that can combine animation, vector lines that maintain the same level of quality no matter how large they are, and live video. You can use Flash videos to display cartoons as well as Internet advertisements. Flash videos are often small files, making them suitable to embed in a Web page to inform, entertain and sell items to people browsing a website.

    Converting MPG to FLV

    • Launch FFmpeg on your computer. Drag an MPG file from a folder on your computer into the "From" section in the FFmpeg application window under "Source Format." Click the "To" drop-down menu in the "To" section under "Target Format," and then click "FLV (Flash Video)" preset option to select it. Click "Save As," then click a folder on your computer where you want to save the FLV file, and then click "Save As." Click "Encode" to convert the MPG to an FLV.
