How to Burrow in a Plant Pot

    • 1). Pour potting soil into your pot or planter. Do not fill the pot completely with soil. Burrowing requires displacing the soil. If the pot is filled to the brim, soil may spill out of the pot. Add soil until the surface is approximately two inches from the top of the pot.

    • 2). Use your hand or a small hand shovel to "burrow" or create a hole in the center of the pot. The size of your hole will depend upon the size of your plant. If you are planting seeds, you will only need to create a burrow that is 1/2-inch to 1 inch deep. If you are planting a seedling or starter plant, you must burrow a hole that is large enough to accommodate all of the plant's roots.

    • 3). Place your plant or seeds into your burrowed hole. Use your hands or small shovel to move the soil back into place. If your seedling or starter plant needs additional support, you may add additional soil to the pot to support the stem.
