How to Replace a Sewer Ejector Pump
- 1). Pull the sewage ejector pump's electrical plug out of its receptacle.
- 2). Place one adjustable wrench on the sewer pipe union's body. Grip the union's bottom locking nut with a second adjustable wrench. The sewage ejector pump's discharge pipe connects to the drain system with a union fitting.
- 3). Hold the union's body still with the adjustable wrench and turn the bottom union nut counterclockwise with the second adjustable wrench. Remove the nut from the body.
- 4). Put on rubber gloves.
- 5). Remove the lid covering the sewage pit. Slide the lid off the ejector pump's discharge pipe and pull the pump's electrical cord out of its hole in the lid.
- 6). Lift the old sewage ejector pump out of the sewage pit and place it on a rag next to the pit.
- 7). Grip the male fitting holding the discharge pipe to the old sewage ejector pump with an adjustable wrench. Turn the male fitting counterclockwise and remove the fitting from the old pump. Set the old ejector pump in a 5-gal. bucket. Discard the old pump.
- 8). Cover the bottom three threads of the discharge pipe's male fitting with pipe thread compound.
- 9). Twist the discharge pipe's male fitting into the new sewage ejector pump's discharge port. The discharge port contains female threads.
