Your Outdoor Living Wish List
July 4th 2013

A wish list isn't just for Christmas! If you enjoy being outside, you need a wish list to focus your ideas and plans for maximising your outdoor space all year round. The papers are all saying we're in for a hot July, so is your garden prepped and accessorised for the sunny days ahead? We've compiled our ultimate Outdoor Living wish list to provide some inspiration.

Pergola
More and more families are bringing their sitting rooms outside, and a pergola is a fantastic way to create a usable, attractive outdoor space without the need for expensive building work or applying for planning permission. A lean-to pergola built against the house makes the transition from indoors to outdoors minimal. They work brilliantly with terraced areas, patios, gravel or lawns. With plenty of plants, a dedicated seating area, a firepit and some subtle lighting, you'll never want to go indoors again!

Firepits and Barbecues
Eating al fresco is one of the joys of outdoor living, while cooking over hot coals brings out the caveman in the most reserved Englishmen. If you haven't got a firepit or barbecue, it's time to change that.

Firepits are THE outdoor living accessory of 2013, and cover everything from a hole dug into the ground through to top-end contemporary creations that cost a small fortune. Happily there are plenty of affordable models available in shops and online that are portable, easy to use and stylish.

An all-in-one cookout system should be on everyone's wish list, because it combines all the elements of a firepit and grill, while the addition of a lidded stew pot allows you to cook all year round. The €5-in-1 Cowboy Cookout System' from Perfect Pergolas offers all this - you can buy the individual elements separately as you require, or go for the complete set. Hanging from its tripod it makes a real statement in the garden, and when the chilli's eaten and the stars come out, you can all huddle round the firepit to keep warm. Outdoor living at its best!

Lighting
Garden lighting adds a whole new dimension to your outdoor space, going way beyond just extending the day. Trees bedecked with fairy lights, lanterns suspended from a pergola, or solar lights leading a path down to a special chill-out area are all ways to use lighting to enhance your garden. Hanging lighting or permanent spots are useful, beautiful additions to a pergola, as they create atmosphere and allow you to enjoy your outdoor space long after the sun's gone down. These pyramid-shaped lanterns hold three tea lights, which give a sparkly, natural glow to their surroundings.

Games for all the Family
It's a fact that kids don't spend enough time outdoors. They're too entranced by their latest gadgets, or simply flopped on the sofa in front of the TV. It's time to lure them outside with the promise of good old-fashioned games that all the family can enjoy. They'll love seeing Dad embarrass himself with his hopeless aim at croquet, or Mum toppling a giant Jenga tower. We strongly believe that playing games together as a family is good for the soul, no matter how young or old you are. They don't have to cost a fortune, they store away easily, and can be brought out as soon as the sun makes an appearance! Why not try traditional French favourite boules or a beautiful hand-made Noughts and Crosses set with natural rope frame.

With the sun set to shine all month, we hope our Ultimate Outdoor Living wish list gives you the inspiration you need to make the most of your garden. But above all, enjoy being outdoors!
