Review of AXIS 207W Wireless Network Camera

103 4
I have used the AXIS 207W Wireless Network Camera a few times.
It's one of my favorite wireless cameras, very configurable and great image quality.
Unfortunately it is a bit expensive, so this wireless camera might not be for the hobbyist.
Pros: 1) Excellent image quality.
See for yourself on the products official website.
2) Low bandwidth.
When streaming over the internet, you want to use as little bandwidth as possible.
But the default video compression for inexpensive network cameras in this class, Motion JPEG, is known for being a bandwidth hog.
The AXIS 207W Network Wireless Camera solves this problem with MPEG4 compression.
3) Great auto-brightness control.
Unlike a lot of other cameras, this one actually has an auto-brightness control that works great.
Dim the lights and the video darkens briefly then brightens back up.
Of course you get best video when used under optimal lighting conditions.
But the wireless cameras auto-brightness control makes it usable under less-then-ideal conditions.
4) Very Configurable.
5) The extras: Two different swivel mounts; a short pedestal and a plastic C-clamp.
A power cord extender, if your power supply is too far away.
Cons: 1) Hard to focus by your self.
You need one person to stand at the camera and focus it, and one to watch the stream and give feedback.
2) Audio can't be configured, only be set to on and off.
3) It's a bit expensive.
It has pros and cons, but I think the pros outweigh the cons.
The AXIS 207W Wireless Network Camera is a great wireless camera, and if you don't need the audio to be topnotch, you should consider this buying the XIS 207W Wireless Network Camera.
