Games and Patterns
Anna: After the clay is removed through carving to create the designs I have to do a lot of finishing work to make everything smooth. When the game is bone dry, I carefully sand it and then bisque fire it. I use about ten layers of complementary glazes to get the detail to stand out and then fire the game to cone 6. They come out really sturdy – as strong as a dinner plate. Next I make the corresponding games pieces, either of wood or pottery, gather them together with rules in a drawstring velvet bag, and they're ready to be played!
