How to Repair a Fossil Decker Blue Watch
- 1). Push the watch case opener under the lip of the back watch plate that covers the inner workings of the watch. Take the plate off, lay it and the watch face face up on a cloth. If any water is trapped within the watch, it will drain out. If addressed quickly, small amounts of water within a watch can be drained without causing the watch any damage. However, the longer water stays inside your watch, the more irreparable damage it will cause. Let the watch air dry for at least 24 hours.
- 2). Use the tweezers to remove the old battery. Most often when a watch stops working, it's simply the battery that needs to be replaced. Before removing the battery, notice how the battery was seated in the battery housing so that you can place the new battery in correctly.
- 3). Gently go over the inner workings of the back watch plate and the inside rim of the watch with the scratch brush to remove any dust and small scratches. Small particles of dust can stop a watch from working. A loose, chipped or cracked jewel or gemstone provides space for dust to get into the inner workings. A jeweler should replace loose stones in a watch, but if you visited a jeweler that simply reset the stone, it's important that you remove any dust from the inside of the watch. To prevent further dust from getting into your watch, make sure to place your watch in a dry place in its original box or jewelry box when you're not wearing it.
- 4). Lubricate the mainspring. The mainspring is like the motor of a watch; it provides the right amount of power to the wheel train to keep the watch turning properly. A dry mainspring can cause a watch to run slow or completely stop working. To reduce friction, prevent rust and keep the watch running smoothly, apply watch lubricant to the mainspring. If the lubricant dries out, reapply it. The mainspring is the largest spring in the watch. Use the dropper top from the watch lubricant and lightly run the end of the dropper over the spring. This will rub some of the lubricant from the dropper onto the spring without excessively lubricating the spring.
- 5). Use the tweezers and place the new battery in the battery housing. Pull out the watch stem, snap the back watch plate in place and set your watch. Things like dust or walking into a strong magnetic field can throw your watch timing off. After removing water from the watch, cleaning the watch and replacing the battery, you should reset your time. If your watch is sill malfunctioning, take your Fossil Blue Decker watch to a repairman.
