How to Create the Fishtail or Herringbone Braid
- 1). Part your hair down the center using a comb. Starting on the right side of the part, twist a one-inch segment of hair away from your face.
- 2). Separate a ½-inch section right below the first section along the side of your face using a comb. Twist that piece away from your face and combine it with the first segment of hair.
- 3). Repeating this process all down the right side of your hairline until you get to your neck. Use a hair clip or bobby pin to hold the hair in place at the nape of your neck.
- 4). Begin the same process on the left side of the part, starting at the forehead, and continue twisting until you reach the nape of the neck.
- 5). Unclip the right side that you've already completed. Hold both the left and the right sides as two separate sections. Do not combine them!
- 6). Pull a ½-inch segment of hair from the right section and add it to the left section. Repeat this process by taking a ½-inch segment of hair from the left section and adding it to the right section.
- 7). Continue adding the ½-inch sections of hair to the opposite side all the way down to the end. Secure the braid with a hair elastic. Lightly spray with hairspray to catch any loose hairs, if you like.
