The Best Time of Year to Transplant Dogwood Trees
- Dogwoods purchased from nurseries can be transplanted at any time of the year. Transplant a dogwood that has been growing in the ground in the fall.
- Once the dogwood has been transplanted, it will require ample water and mulch. Water the tree daily to give the root system enough water to establish itself into the soil surrounding the root ball. Cover the disturbed soil with mulch to allow nutrients to leech into the soil, providing nutrients that are vital to the tree's survival.
- Newly transplanted dogwoods must be staked to provide protection from the wind until the root system is established. Place stakes in the ground on either side of the tree, approximately 1 foot from the planting hole. Secure the tree to the stakes with twine.
