How to Build a Pilates Reformer Base
- 1). Cut two of the hardwood planks to 88 inches in length. These will be the side planks of the reformer base. Next cut the two front and back pieces at 24 inches in length each.
- 2). Cut eight pieces measuring 24 inches by 12 inches for the base's legs. Sand any rough edges. Round the edges of the top of the base for comfort.
- 3). Put the top of the base together by arranging the two long planks on either side with the shorter planks positioned between the two side pieces. Pre-drill four holes in each end of the side planks, equidistant apart. Use the wood screws to attach the front and back pieces to the side planks.
- 4). Make the legs for the base by taking two of the leg pieces and positioning them together in an "L" shape with the longest sides together. The pieces should be arranged so the side piece is on the outside with the front/back piece on the inside of the other piece. Pre-drill four holes equidistant apart and attach the pieces with the wood screws. Repeat this step to make the other three legs.
- 5). Drill matching holes on the bottom of the reformer base and the tops of the leg pieces. The holes should be large enough that the 1/2-inch wooden dowels slide into them snugly.
- 6). Flip the reformer base upside down so you have access to the dowel holes. Coat the holes with wood glue. You may need to coat the dowels as well to make sure the bond is secure. Insert the dowels into the holes on the reformer base.
- 7). Turn the legs upside down and attach them to the base by pushing them firmly onto the dowels until there is no space between the legs and base. Clean off any excess glue.
- 8). Turn the reformer base back over and the let the glue dry. Once the glue is dry you can attach the inner workings of the reformer machine that you purchased. Follow the manufacturer's instructions to install the reformer hardware.
