How to Track Distance & Speed With a Heart Rate Monitor
- 1). Moisten the heart rate sensor by running it under cool water.
- 2). Wear the sensor against your skin for an accurate reading. Place it below your chest, yet above your stomach. Tie the strap around your chest and tighten it for a comfortable fit. Jump up and down to make sure it will stay in place.
- 3). Untie your shoelaces. Secure the clasp on the distance and speed-measuring sensor underneath your laces, if your monitor offers this feature. Tighten your laces. Alternatively, you can turn on the global positioning system (GPS) on, if your monitor offers this feature.
- 4). Place the watch on your wrist and turn it on. The "Start" button is located in the front. Make sure it picks up your heart rate before you begin exercising.
