How to Cook and Prepare Yellow Soybeans

    • 1). Place the soybeans in a large bowl and cover them with water. Stir the soybeans so that any empty hulls and other debris float to the top. Skim away everything that floats to the top.

    • 2). Using a slotted spoon, remove the soybeans to another bowl. This will allow any dirt to settle to the bottom of the first bowl. Check each spoonful for discolored soybeans, which should be thrown away.

    • 3). Cover the soybeans with water again. Cover the bowl and soak the soybeans overnight -- or for 8 hours -- at room temperature.

    • 4). Drain and rinse the soybeans. Put them into a large pot and cover them with water. Bring the water to a boil and then turn down to simmer.

    • 5). Cook the soybeans for 2 to 3 hours. If you are going to use them cold -- such as added to a salad -- cook them a little longer. If you are going to add them to a recipe where they will continue to cook -- such as soup or chili -- cook them a until they are slightly tender.

    • 6). Drain the soybeans. They can now be used in any recipe that calls for other beans.
