How to Increase Gloss on a Glazed Tile Floor
- 1). Affix the aluminum-oxide sandpaper to the power hand sander. Sand the glazed tile with the sander until the finish is dull. You won't be able to remove the existing glaze, but you should be able to dull its shine. Don't sand the grout lines between the tiles. Wipe up the sanding dust with a rag.
- 2). Spread oil-based polyurethane floor gloss onto the tiles with a paintbrush, starting at the corner of the room that's farthest from the doorway. Brush each tile with a thin, even coat of the gloss, with the brushstrokes all going in the same direction. Don't cover the grout lines.
- 3). Let the polyurethane set for at least 24 hours.
- 4). Hand-buff the surface of the polyurethane with extra-fine standard sandpaper. Sand it just enough to dull the shine so the next coat of polyurethane will adhere. Wipe off any dust with a rag.
- 5). Brush on the next coat of polyurethane in the same manner as the first coat. Let it dry for at least 24 hours.
- 6). Hand-buff the second coat as you did with the first, and wipe off any dust. Brush on a third coat of polyurethane. Let it set for 48 hours before walking on the tile floor.
