Making the Most of Time
One of the most talked about topics these days has to be the seemingly increasing speed at which time is passing.
How often do you hear people groan at the fact time passes so quickly?
They comment on how fast the year is progressing, how quickly the children grow up or maybe the fact that there is never enough time to fit everything into one day.
When I was younger I can remember grown ups saying that time passes more quickly the older one gets. Personally, I chose to believe the world is spinning faster, the older one gets!
We live in an age where is spinning faster, the older one gets!
We live in an age where modern technology brings the world closer together in an instant but the spin can mean there is so much more information available to us that we develop a sense of overwhelm and rush to 'fit everything into a day' Managing emails for example!
Most people will agree there is much more rushing around than when we were younger ourselves. Stress levels also are noticeably higher in the average person so there has got to be a coloration here.
But does this mean that living in the 21st century means that we have to be stressed out worrying how we might fit everything into our day?
I believe not because I don't think it is what nature intended for us or our happiness in life.
One of my biggest realisations in recent years is the fact no matter how much we may like to know everything there is to know, do everything there is to do or experience everything there is to experience, it is not possible to fit it all in. So why do we try so hard to do so?
Well I learned that until we stop and take stock of how we manage our time, we are on the never ending treadmill which will stress us out, even make us ill before we pass the post 'Job done'. Once we recognise this fact and accept it life becomes easier as we decipher what is really relevant to us and what isn't.
Here is an exercise you can use each time you make a decision on how to allocate your time. As before deciding - ask yourself am I doing this out of obligation, inspiration or desperation?
Try it and see for yourself. What you will discover is that you will begin to make decisions based on what will serve you best rather than just for the sake of doing it.
This will increase your sense of fulfilment because you are making the most of your time allocated to you.
It is the best gift you can give yourself too!
