Crate Training Vs. Paper Training
- The crate becomes a place of comfort for the dog, almost like a den. The Humane Society of the United States notes, "The primary use for a crate is house training. Dogs don't like to soil their dens."
- Crate training does not teach your dog how to act in all rooms of the house. It separates you from your dog while you are in the house.
- Some dogs don't do well in crates and may whine or bark. This could disturb neighbors or cause the dog stress. Paper training may work better if you have mobility problems or live in a high-rise apartment. Paper training is recommended if you can't make it outside quickly.
- During training, your dog will learn that eliminating in the house is acceptable.
