Libido problems can cause strain on relationships and have a big impact on one's self esteem. Most people at one time or another will experience some form of decreased libido. Diet, exercise, stress, overall wellbeing and psychological issues can all contribute to ones level of sexual desire.  

Low libido varies between individuals and can depend on an array of factors. Diet, exercise, stress, overall wellbeing and psychological issues can all contribute to ones level of sexual desire.  The male and female libidos also differ. Factors for a women's diminished libido are generally psychologically based, emotions, anxiety, stress and even hormones can contribute to the issue while the male libido is related strongly to a physical response to stimulation which can be heavily influenced by fatigue, stress and overall lifestyle.

Prescriptive medications and medical treatments can alter ones desire as can the period of menopause in women. There is also a stage of male menopause (Andropause) which men go through and for some men they may experience higher levels of a decreased libido and interest for sex during this time period. 

Where a diminished libido is not the result of a medical condition or treatment there are simple changes and / or additions to your life style that can assist you to get your libido back.

Eating a balanced diet of good health foods such as fruits, vegetables, lentils, lean meats, fish and dairy – cutting out all the sugar rich and saturated fat foods can help your overall wellbeing. Drink plenty of water and reduce your intake or avoid alcoholic drinks and cigarettes. These indulgences can reduce testosterone and hormone levels, not to mention affect the bodies circulation.

Put your body through some good old fashioned exercise – try walking for about thirty minutes a day – regular exercise improves your mood and helps to keep you happy and relaxed. Your circulation will benefit too.

As the body ages it becomes even more important to look after yourself mentally and physically and a libido will decrease naturally with age. It goes without saying that a well nourished, active body will project many benefits – good health, a full life and a healthy libido.

In addition to these lifestyle changes it is important to adjust your attitude towards intimacy in your relationship. It is easy to run out of time, feel tired or choose to watch TV than spend that time with your loved one. You need to make time, make the effort and learn to desire the love again.

Go out for dinner, turn the TV off early and spend time with each other. Don't settle for the usual conversations of work, kids, finance and family – talk about your interests, travel and good times. Date night may seem like a trivial term, however if done properly it can be something that both the men and women look forward to and thoroughly enjoy as the night that all those everyday issues get pushed aside and the main focus is all about you.
