How to Wear a Peasant Skirt with a Belt

    • 1). Choose a skirt that falls at your feet or ankles. It is important not to wear a skirt that reaches the floor, as this will make you look shorter and heavy on the bottom. Also, buy a skirt that matches your frame. If you have small hips and a petite frame, choose a skirt that is slim fitting without a lot of bulky fabric and layers.

    • 2). Buy a Bohemian-style belt. The Bohemian color palette consists of natural earth tones, such as browns, beiges, and greens. You can buy a cloth or leather belt in these colors or take a more modern chic approach and buy a metal medallion belt embellished with natural turquoise or other stones. You can find these types of items in specialty Bohemian stores or online at auction sites such as eBay.

    • 3). Put the skirt on and adjust it so it sits at your hips or slightly above. Pair the skirt with a fitted T-shirt or tank top in a simple color that coordinates well with the skirt. It doesn't have to match perfectly; for instance, you can pair a gray or beige tank top with a turquoise skirt for a more natural look. The shirt should fall right around the waistband of the skirt and should not bunch or gather over the belt.

    • 4). Wrap the belt around your hips and let it fall at your natural hip line, directly around the waistband of the skirt, or loosen it slightly so that it hangs an inch or two below the waistline. If the belt has a lot of overhang after it is buckled, allow it to hang down to the side.
