How to Extend the Life of a Transfer Roller
- 1). Keep the small plastic hook that came with the last maintenance kit you purchased. The transfer roller is part of the maintenance kit, and the kit includes a specially designed hook for grasping the transfer roller and pulling it up.
- 2). Open the top cover of your printer, and remove the toner cartridge. Set the toner cartridge aside.
- 3). Grasp the left side of the transfer roller with the hook. You can unbend a paper clip and use that to grasp the roller if the hook is not available, but it is best to use that special tool.
- 4). Slide the transfer roller to the left, and slide it free of the sleeve on the right-hand side. Grasp the transfer roller by its edges, and clean it with a soft, lint-free cloth. Never touch the roller with your fingers -- the oil on your skin could damage the roller.
- 5). Insert the right side of the transfer roller into the sleeve, and then insert the left side. Push down on the roller until it snaps into place, then replace the toner cartridge and close the top cover.
