How to Make Peach Hardwood Cuttings

    • 1). Take your cuttings in winter when the peach tree is dormant. Sterilize a sharp knife in rubbing alcohol, especially if you have used it on another plant. This will prevent diseases from being transferred to both the tree and your new cuttings.

    • 2). Evaluate the peach tree and choose the branches from which to take your cuttings. Branches should be mature and from either this year or last year's growth. They should be healthy and strong and not easily bent.

    • 3). Measure 6 to 12 inches from the tip of each stem and make a straight cut right below a node, where the leaves connect to the stem.

    • 4). Apply root hormone to the bottom of the cuttings and insert them about 1/3 of their lengths into a pot filled with half sand and half peat. Place them in a bright window and cover the cuttings with a plastic bag. Keep the cuttings moist, but not soaked, until they begin to grow on their own.
