How to Remove Latex Paint From Varnished Surface
- 1). Lay a shop rag over the top of the latex paint, effectively providing a soft buffer between the varnished surface and the scraper. Do not skip this very important step, or you may risk noticeable scarring.
- 2). Scrape the paint from the varnished surface, using a plastic putty knife. Hold the scraper at a low angle and move it in a pushing motion. Remove the shop rag.
- 3). Put on a pair of rubber gloves. Moisten a fresh shop rag with mineral spirits. Wipe off any residual latex paint using the rag. Use a fresh rag to immediately dry the mineral spirits to prevent it from damaging the varnish.
