- Most offices have bland, neutral colors.office 2 image by Omely from Fotolia.com
Most offices suffer from a similar problem: they have a neutral color schemes that are meant to be soothing but actually have a drowsy effect on employees and visitors alike. The right colors can do so much for an office environment, making people feel energized to come to work and increasing productivity. - A problem with a lot of office spaces is that they lack inspiration. They become places were employees simply punch a time clock, with little thought to improving their skills or character. Consider painting an inspirational quote above the doorway where all employees enter, such as "Dreams are necessary to life" or "Success is getting what you want. Happiness is wanting what you get." Select lettering that has an elegant appearance and a paint color that boldly contrasts the rest of the colors that make up the office decor.
- Certain colors of the color palette are known to energize people. These colors are ones located on the warm section of the color wheel, such as shades of red, orange and yellow. You could paint the wall orange and the trim yellow and select office chairs with red cushions to complete the effect. At the same time, you don't want all these colors to be an assault on the eye. Pairing these colors with accents of warm stained wood will give the room a soothing dimension of elegance.
- Designate a focal point in the office and use that as the point from which the rest of your color scheme flows. For example, if you have a company seal which is prominently displayed, pick two colors from that seal and use those as the main shades of your decorating scheme. Alternatively, if you have a painting that has a dominant position in the office, select three colors present in the painting and use those to make up your color scheme.
