How to Coordinate Twin Costumes for Halloween
- 1). Speak with the twins involved to settle on a theme. Some possible ideas include nursery rhymes, fairytales, movie or television characters, or traditional Halloween creatures. Below are some costume ideas in each of these categories.
- 2). Choose storybook characters. Think Jack and Jill, Alice and the White Rabbit, or Harry Potter and Ron or Hermonine.For Jack and Jill, coordinate the colors of the twins' clothing so that there is an obvious correlation between them. Try blue denim jeans or overalls with red tops and white sneakers. Embroider, iron on, or paint the names Jack and Jill on their shirts or overalls. Have them carry buckets for their trick-or-treat bags.For Alice in Wonderland, dress one like Alice with a frilly dress, white apron, and Mary Jane shoes. Dress the other in a white rabbit costume purchased or rented from a local Halloween shop. For Harry Potter fans, dress one twin like Harry with khaki pants, a striped T-shirt, black cape, a top hat, black glasses and a magic wand. Dress the other boy twin like Ron or girl or Hermonine. For Ron, choose slightly distressed clothing with patches or rips in it. Paint his hair with red hair paint and add freckles on the face with eyeliner pencil. Give him a wand that is broken in two and taped in the middle. For Hermonine, choose a plaid skirt and a white button-down blouse with a sweater over top. Don't forget the knee high socks and saddle shoes. Back comb the hair so that it looks a bit ratty. She should also have a magic wand.
- 3). Opt for well-known fairytale characters like Snow White and a dwarf, Little Red Riding Hood and the wolf, or Peter Pan and Captain Hook.Dress one twin in a Snow White costume. These can be found anywhere that sells Disney Princesses like Toys R Us or Wal-Mart. Dress the other twin in tights and a long tunic shirt that can be belted at the waist. Add a stocking cap to complete the costume. If desired, add a fake beard. Dress Little Red Riding Hood in normal clothing with a red cape. Capes can be easily found around Halloween time at discount department and even some dollar stores. Have "Red" carry a basket for her trick-or-treat goodies. Dress the wolf in a costume that is purchased or rented from a local Halloween Shop. For extra fun, add a granny gown and nightcap over the top to simulate the wolf pretending to be Red's grandmother.For Peter Pan, dress one twin all in green, preferably green tights and a green tunic tied with a belt at the waist. Don't forget the famous Peter hat. Dress Captain Hook in a homemade pirate costume or purchase one at a local discount department store or Halloween shop. Add the hook and an eye patch to finish the look. These can be purchased at dollar and Halloween shops.

Try movie characters like Superman and Lex Luthor, Batman and Batgirl, or Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader.For Superman, use one of the inexpensive costumes that can be found at discount department and Halloween stores. Dress Lex in a suit and tie. Finish off the costume with a bald cap that can also be purchased at any Halloween shop.For Batman and Batgirl, think about formal costumes that can be purchased at most Halloween shops and department stores. Another option is to just dress both characters in all black and add accessories like a black cape, the appropriate masks, and a few high tech looking gadgets attached to each belt. Opt for boots if they are available (even rain boots will work well). Dress Luke in a purchased or rental costume or just use simple pants with a T-shirt, adding a karate style tunic over top, tying it at the waist. Add boots and a light saber, which can be purchased at a toy store. For Darth Vader, choose a rental or purchased costume or dress the child in solid black. Then add a black cape and a Darth Vader mask and hood. Add a light saber and he is also all set to go.
- 5). Choose television characters like Bart and Lisa Simpson, Simon Cowell and any American Idol of choice, or any two Power Rangers.For Bart Simpson, choose blue jeans and a T-shirt. - 6). Stay with typical Halloween creatures. Try Dracula and his bride, a witch and a black cat, or Frankenstein and the doctor who created him.Choose all-black clothing for both characters. Add a black cape and some teeth with a bit of fake blood. For more pop, paint the their face and hands in all white or a pale gray. For the bride, back comb the hair to make it stick out a bit, spraying it heavily into place. If desired, add a black wedding veil. Purchase a toy version from a dollar store or toy store or pick up a used from a thrift store. Paint it black.Dress the witch in dark clothing. Add a black cape and witch's hat. Have her carry a black cauldron as the trick-or-treat bag. For authenticity, add some moles on the face and hands with paints and synthetics that can be purchased at most Halloween stores. Dress the other child as a black cat with black tights, a black body suit or top and shorts, cat ears and whiskers.For Frankenstein, dress the child in an old suit that has been distressed with rips and tears. Pick out one that he has already outgrown or get one from a thrift shop. Paint his face and hands in green or gray and add some fake scars that can be purchased at any Halloween shop.
