Good Grandpa Gifts
- Older generations like to reminisce about their youth.old memoirs from old drawer image by ewa kubicka from Fotolia.com
Finding a good gift for a grandpa is not as easy as it looks. Grandfathers, being representatives of an older generation, understand the world in a slightly different way than we do. This can make our apparently great gifts not so great after all. For example, the odds are small that a grandfather would appreciate a cool iPhone as a fantastic gift, while most modern people would. Accordingly, you need to find something that your grandpa will truly value and appreciate. - Your grandpa would probably find it really touching to revisit some of the moments of his life, including important moments in his country and the world throughout his life. Make a nice scrapbook that will tell a story from his birth to the present day, putting pictures and maybe newspapers abstracts capturing the highlights of your grandpa's life. Include details from the end of WWII, the first person on the moon, the birth of his son or daughter, his wedding, the inauguration of his favorite president or the last day in office of his worst-rated president (grandpas are usually fond of politics).
- While prepaid phone cards are not the first thing on a person's mind when searching for a gift, your grandpa may actually like it. Calling his family without running huge phone bills is a great way to stay in touch. If you think that a phone card is not a big enough gift, you can buy a simple prepaid cell phone that will allow your grandpa to keep in touch 24/7 and call his doctor if there is an emergency.
- Being a person from a generation that actually read books and the press, your grandfather probably enjoys reading. If he is retired, he may now have the time to read books by his favorite writers that he couldn't read while working. If your grandpa's eyesight is not great, you can get him an audiobook or an audio subscription to a magazine.
